About the Role
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at WM you will service and repair essential heavy‑equipment that keeps our waste‑disposal operations running smoothly, directly impacting the efficiency and safety of the facility. Your daily duties will involve troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, performing preventative maintenance, completing required documentation, and maintaining ancillary equipment. • Repair bulldozers, scrapers, backhoes, loaders, yard trucks, tractors, forklifts, and company vehicles. • Diagnose and fix differentials, hydraulic systems, motors, transmissions, drives, air‑conditioning and electrical systems. • Perform preventative maintenance following site checklists. • Complete paperwork such as work orders, card files, PM checklists, and oil samples. • Service light plants, water pumps, welders, and other ancillary equipment. • Meet physical demands of lifting, standing, climbing and work in varied weather conditions. • Work independently, take accountability for quality, communicate effectively, and solve problems proactively.

Candidates must meet the legal and physical qualifications required for the role, including appropriate certifications, a valid driver’s licence, age requirements, eligibility to work in Canada, and the ability to pass pre‑employment screenings. The position requires frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, climbing and standing, as well as exposure to typical occupational hazards such as cuts, burns, chemicals, noise, dust and extreme weather, both inside garages and outdoors.
