About the Role

The HR Manager will serve the Waste Management HR organization by delivering strategic people solutions and tactical support to managers responsible for a workforce of approximately 520 employees across 20 sites in the South Atlantic region. Based in Charlotte, NC, the role requires 40-50 % travel throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, and supports the WM Healthcare Solutions acquisition, demanding both union and non-union as well as M&A experience. Key responsibilities include diagnosing organizational issues, developing and implementing People solutions, and overseeing talent management activities such as succession planning, learning and development, and employee development programs. The manager will execute strategies to improve organizational health, lead diversity and inclusion initiatives, and coach multiple functional leaders on HR matters. The role acts as a primary HR advisor, providing guidance on employee and labor relations, compliance with federal, state and local employment laws, and handling recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and exit processes. It also partners with Centers of Expertise to deliver HR programs, leads or participates in HR projects, prepares reports, and supports budget analysis. Supervisory duties involve managing People Advisors and other support staff, with direct oversight of at least one full-time employee. • Deliver strategic HR solutions and tactical support to ~520 employees across 20 South Atlantic sites. • Lead talent management, succession planning, and employee development initiatives. • Drive diversity, inclusion, and organizational health programs. • Advise managers on employee relations, labor issues, and regulatory compliance. • Partner with Centers of Expertise to implement HR strategies and manage recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes. • Oversee HR projects, budgeting, reporting, and data-driven People analytics. • Supervise People Advisors and other HR support staff.

What You Bring

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Labor Relations, Human Resources, Psychology or a related field (or equivalent experience), five years of HR management experience, and preferably SPHR certification. Candidates must possess strong strategic thinking, analytical, consultative, and communication skills, as well as experience in talent management, labor relations, and multi-disciplinary HR functions. The position requires frequent travel (10-40 % depending on location), regular use of keyboard and computer equipment, occasional physical tasks, and exposure to field environments such as dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes. The primary work setting is an office. Travel may require a REAL ID or TSA‑approved alternative for airline travel and access to federal properties. • Require bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) plus 5+ years HR management experience; SPHR preferred. • Must have union and non-union experience, M&A exposure, and willingness to travel 40-50 % in NC, SC, GA. • Demonstrate strong analytical, consultative, communication, and project-management skills.
