About the Role
Interns will support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills, learn basic transportation planning principles, and assist with project research, field work, preliminary design calculations, and analysis. They will also help prepare final design plans, special provisions, cost estimates, collect and maintain project documentation, complete required training, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct while performing additional duties as needed. What You Bring
The Advisory and Planning Team is seeking a full‑time Transportation Planning Intern for its Washington, DC office. This temporary role is open to individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and is part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, a 12‑week period beginning around May 18, 2026, with a flexible start date. Required qualifications include active enrollment in an accredited Transportation Planning or related undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later, being at least 18 years old, and having U.S. work authorization. Candidates must demonstrate interest in transportation planning, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to take direction from leadership, have basic proficiency in technical writing and office software, and maintain a record of workplace safety compliance. Preferred qualifications feature coursework or interest in creating vibrant communities through the intersection of transportation, urban planning, and data‑driven decision‑making, strong writing and communication abilities (a writing sample will be requested), and prior internship or leadership experience on campus. • Required: enrollment in accredited Transportation Planning program, graduation Aug 2026+, age 18+, U.S. work authorization. • Required skills: interpersonal communication, direction‑taking, basic technical writing, office software proficiency, safety compliance. • Preferred: coursework in transportation‑urban planning integration, strong writing sample, prior internship or leadership experience.
