Job Highlights
About the Role
• Deliver end‑to‑end cable engineering packages from feasibility through commissioning. • Review complex HVAC and HVDC cable designs, perform route development and risk assessments. • Conduct cable rating studies including ampacity, short‑circuit forces, thermal stability and EMI analysis. • Perform cable pulling, jointing, cleating and installation feasibility analyses. • Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams for integrated solutions. • Lead third‑party inspections and support FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning activities. • Interface with manufacturers, suppliers and contractors to ensure compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, NG‑TP and other standards. • Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, HAZID/HAZOP sessions and multidisciplinary coordination.

What You Bring
The Transmission & Distribution team is seeking experienced Cable System Design Engineers to lead full‑lifecycle cable projects for transmission system operators, distribution network operators and private developers. Engineers will work from feasibility and concept studies through detailed design, installation support and commissioning of on‑shore infrastructure, contributing to critical energy transition initiatives. • Strong experience in HV/EHV cable system design and FEED for transmission and distribution projects. • Experience in regulated, quality‑assured environments, preferably with National Grid. • Proficiency in on‑shore cable routing, burial risk assessment, mechanical forces and thermal analysis. • Knowledge of national and international standards (IEC, CIGRÉ, NG‑TP) and quality inspection/testing of cables. • Skilled with CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS and mechanical simulation tools. • Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering/Power Systems; NG Certified – CDAE; Chartered Engineer (CEng) desirable.
