About the Role
The position follows a 4‑day work week with night shifts from 4:00 pm to 2:30 am, delivering stable hours for work‑life balance. Work is performed in a repair/maintenance shop at WM’s Des Moines, IA hauling site. As a Diesel Mechanic you will service trucks and equipment that support over 20 million customers across the United States, using modern tools and procedures on both diesel and, at some locations, CNG fleets. • Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems • Estimate time and material costs for repairs and parts • Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs) • Respond to emergency breakdown service calls • Conduct safety checks on vehicles • Complete paperwork documenting parts usage and repair times • Assist senior mechanics on project work • Review and address repairs from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports • Maintain a clean, safe work area compliant with OSHA standards

What You Bring
The role requires frequent physical activity such as lifting, standing, and climbing, and it involves exposure to noise, weather, chemicals and other occupational hazards while maintaining compliance with OSHA standards. • Minimum 2 years relevant mechanical experience • Valid driver’s license and age 18+ • Legally authorized to work in the United States • Ability to meet physical job demands (lifting, standing, exposure to hazards) • Pass pre‑employment drug screen and physical examination • Team‑player attitude, independent work capability, enjoys variety, strong problem‑solving skills
