About the Role

The Advisor delivers environmental expertise for electric utility infrastructure projects across the North Central region, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, the ISO 14001 environmental management system and project‑specific environmental protection plans. A key component of the role is coordinating and managing responses to environmental incidents and spills. • Provide technical environmental support across construction, reclamation and operational phases of electric utility projects. • Evaluate project technical data, identify constraints and communicate findings to staff and district offices. • Educate and support construction, engineering, operations & maintenance teams on project‑specific environmental requirements. • Develop and implement environmental mitigation measures and project‑specific environmental protection plans. • Lead timely response to environmental incidents and coordinate spill response activities. • Collaborate with third‑party contractors to ensure incident handling complies with company standards. • Conduct incident reviews, investigations and root‑cause analysis; prepare regulatory reports. • Partner with the Environmental Planning team to develop, implement and audit the ISO 14001 EMS. • Deliver environmental training to employees and contractors; participate in regional meetings and safety committees. • Advise on municipal, provincial and federal environmental regulations and monitor regulatory changes. • Represent technical support on focus groups and committees; act as backup for the Environmental Supervisor.

What You Bring

The position requires regular travel to field offices and remote sites, operating on rotating shift schedules and often involving overnight stays and the use of a company vehicle. The Advisor works closely with regional staff, contractors and other functional groups to build strong working relationships and provide technical guidance. • University or college degree in a relevant environmental discipline (e.g., reclamation, biology). • Professional designation such as Professional Agrologist, Professional Biologist or Registered Technical Agrologist preferred. • 0‑2 years experience in environmental field work and in an active construction setting. • Proficiency in surface water, groundwater, soil sampling, spill assessment, waste management, reclamation and wetland assessments. • Ability to interpret maps, air photos, engineering drawings and use GPS, GIS and specialized databases (SPIN II, AbaData). • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project. • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong collaborative and problem‑solving abilities. • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license; willingness to travel, use a company vehicle and stay overnight.
