About the Role
The Design Engineer, Item Management is responsible for sourcing engineering and technical review of supplier details and for comparing key component information. A strong understanding of item lifecycle management is required to support spare‑part review and technical analysis for aftermarket initiatives. The role works closely with the Aftermarket Sourcing team on strategic projects such as supplier consolidation, cost saving and net working capital improvement. The position involves data validation, data analysis, and technical analysis of spare parts across different stages of the item lifecycle. It requires collaboration with parts and service teams, mechanical and electrical engineers, and sourcing teams to ensure accurate information flow. The engineer will also perform specification reviews, validate supplier data against design requirements, and drive improvements in supplier capability for aftermarket needs. • Validate and analyze spare‑part data across the item lifecycle. • Perform technical and specification reviews to ensure supplier components meet engineering and quality standards. • Collaborate with parts/service, mechanical & electrical engineers, and sourcing teams on aftermarket initiatives. • Manage item creation and master data in Teamcenter, SAP MDG, S/4 HANA and related ERP systems. • Conduct data audits, clean‑up activities, and support supplier consolidation and cost‑saving projects. • Apply strong analytical skills to compare OEM specifications and recommend changes. • Communicate effectively with global and cross‑functional teams.

What You Bring
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering is required, together with 1‑3 years of experience in item lifecycle management in Sandvik or a related industry. Candidates should possess knowledge of sourcing engineering, item master data, SAP MDG, S/4 HANA, Teamcenter, and NX. Experience in a mining or heavy‑industry engineering environment is preferred. Technical expertise includes ensuring supplier components meet engineering and quality standards, performing spec reviews, and managing item creation and Bill of Materials in Teamcenter and ERP systems. The role demands strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, including the capacity to compute electrical engineering calculations and compare OEM specifications. Proficiency in data audits, clean‑up activities, and understanding of aftermarket processes is valuable. Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed to collaborate effectively with diverse and global stakeholders. The engineer must be able to work independently on multiple projects, adapt to dynamic environments, and handle site visits or field work when required.
