About the Role
The Yard Associate position is based at R.P. Lumber in Nevada, MO. This role ensures every customer receives prompt, courteous service while maintaining a safe, accountable, and clean environment. The associate also oversees proper product storage and equipment maintenance. In addition to customer service, the Yard Associate participates in delivery operations, tracking product movement in and out of the yard, building loads, and assisting with safe unloading and stocking of materials such as shingles, drywall, lumber, and millwork. The Yard Manager serves as the direct supervisor. • Greet customers and contractors warmly upon entering the yard or Home Retail Center. • Load materials onto customer or company vehicles, verifying type and quantity against POS records. • Unload incoming freight carefully to avoid damage to goods or carrier equipment. • Operate a forklift to merchandise and stock the yard and warehouse. • Build accurate loads and prepare materials for delivery. • Assist truck drivers delivering merchandise to homes and job sites using company equipment. • Respond to customer inquiries about product selection, pricing, orders, delivery scheduling, and provide follow‑up as needed. • Maintain inventory, product displays, and pricing labels by stocking, facing, straightening, and cleaning to ensure organized, safe storage. • Enforce all safety rules and policies as communicated by management. • Follow company safety expectations for material storage, handling, and transport. • Maintain regular, reliable, and dependable attendance. • Provide professional customer service in a team‑oriented environment. • Perform sitting, standing, bending, and walking throughout the day.

What You Bring
• Possess forklift experience or be willing to be trained. • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication with vendors, customers, management, and team members. • Apply common‑sense understanding and follow simple one‑ or two‑step instructions. • Knowledge of building materials and construction industry is a plus. • Hold a high school diploma or GED. • Have at least one year of related work experience (preferred). • Possess a valid state driver’s license (Class E in Missouri) and an acceptable driving record. • Be highly organized with strong attention to detail. • Be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. • Pass pre‑employment drug testing, background check, and driver‑history verification. • Frequently lift or move 50–100 lb and perform motions such as reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. • Work in and tolerate adverse weather conditions.
