About the Role

The Electrical Principal Design Engineer provides technical leadership within the Engineering Design team, owning discipline‑specific design delivery on water and wastewater projects. This hands‑on role combines deep technical expertise, governance responsibility and direct involvement in complex project delivery, while supporting supply‑chain engagement and the development of electrical engineering capability. • Serve as technical authority and approve electrical design outputs for quality and compliance. • Lead development of efficient, buildable electrical designs balancing capital and operational expenditure. • Provide Principal Designer support to ensure CDM compliance across design activities. • Drive innovation, value engineering and digital design in electrical engineering delivery. • Deliver technical problem‑solving and governance throughout the project lifecycle. • Conduct pre‑contract technical governance and review supplier/subcontractor design submissions. • Champion lessons learned and continuous improvement across projects. • Line‑manage and mentor senior electrical engineers, supporting their professional development. • Produce and approve LV electrical design packages, including calculations, schematics and schedules. • Create control philosophies, URS and FDS documentation aligned to client specifications. • Review and validate supplier and subcontractor electrical designs. • Apply BS7671 (18th Edition), NICEIC certification and relevant British Standards. • Ensure flexible working arrangements and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate has extensive experience producing and approving LV electrical design packages for the water and wastewater sector, including cable calculations, schematics, and installation packs. They are proficient with AMTECH and AutoCAD/DraftSight, understand BS7671 (18th Edition), NICEIC standards and British Standards, and hold a degree in Electrical Engineering with at least ten years of sector experience. Chartered Engineer status is strongly preferred, alongside commercial awareness from contractor or consultancy environments. • Utilize AMTECH and AutoCAD/DraftSight; HV and DSEAR experience is desirable. • Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering and 10+ years’ experience in the municipal water and wastewater sector. • Possess Chartered Engineer status or be working towards it. • Demonstrate commercial awareness from contractor or consultancy environments. • Understand QA, health & safety legislation and design governance.
