About the Role
The Assistant Area Accounting Lead reports to the local Area Accounting Lead and supports Area Management by ensuring accounting practices align with HDR policies, federal compliance, and accounting principles. This role blends analytical expertise with leadership to coordinate accounting staff across project‑financial functions. Key duties include overseeing invoicing, revenue review, rolling forecasts, and monthly overhead/GL analysis while driving process improvements. The position also manages project accounting for large, complex projects, supervises and mentors accounting teams, and ensures proper accounts payable, cost recovery, and reporting using Power BI and other BI tools. • Ensure timely invoicing and balance PA workloads. • Facilitate revenue review and prepare for monthly watchlist meetings. • Build, review, and support rolling 12‑month forecasts and budgeting cycles. • Conduct monthly OH/GL analysis, correct coding, and investigate variances. • Track seminars, training, conference costs, indirect labor, and cost recovery. • Produce area management reports (loaned/borrowed, utilization, AR, etc.) using BI dashboards. • Promote and train staff on the Power BI Operations Accounting Reporting Suite (OARS). • Oversee project accounting for large/complex projects and ensure timely closeouts. • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff; conduct performance reviews and approve timesheets. • Manage accounts payable functions, vendor invoices, sub‑consultant payments, corporate credit cards, and expense reports. • Monitor vehicle mileage logs, TDY costs, and internal cost recovery for equipment and vehicles. • Maintain general accounting functions for the area, including AP, credit card, and check requests.

What You Bring
• Preferred qualifications: positive leadership, detail‑oriented, BA in accounting, 7+ years experience, MS Office proficiency, Oracle EBS/Hyperion and A/E/C experience a plus. • Required qualifications: associate degree (or equivalent experience), 5+ years experience (advanced degree may offset), strong MS Office skills, excellent written and verbal communication, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, self‑motivated, confidential handling of information, commitment to employee‑owned culture.
