About the Role

The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and compact waste or soil in an efficient and safe manner. The role focuses on maintaining operational efficiency while protecting personnel and the environment. The operator conducts pre‑ and post‑operation inspections of equipment, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear‑view cameras are clean. They safely operate machinery such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front‑end loaders following proper safety standards. Continuous monitoring of waste for unacceptable materials and of equipment condition is required to minimize downtime, including cleaning tracks or wheels as needed. Minor service tasks are performed and documented, with complex mechanical issues referred to the maintenance shop, and all relevant reports are completed. The shop is kept clean and organized at the end of each shift, and additional duties are performed as assigned.
