About the Role
• Identify and solve technical issues with equipment • Performs and documents personnel performance evaluations upon termination/job completion of each survey personnel • Effective management of field staff • Guides, coaches, motivates, or disciplines survey personnel as necessary to meet project schedules and budgets • Requests assignment of personnel (by classification and number) and equipment needed to carry out the required survey activities • Monitors the survey personnel's performance of activities, completion of documentation, personal conduct, work ethics, and interface with others. Evaluates these actions and provides guidance, coaching, motivation, or discipline as necessary to reinforce his role on the project • Identify and solve organizational and other field-related issues • May recommend new hires and train new surveying staff • Orients survey personnel on project requirements, planning, polices, guidelines, procedures, safety, emergency response, and quality assurance • Resolves survey performance issues with the client representative and land owners that threaten the timely completion of the project survey activities • Implements company and project survey policies, guidelines, and procedures • Explains the requirements for documentation of assigned tasks. Provides document, record, and report forms, explains the proper completion, distribution, and timing for submittal of those forms. Provides assurance that project documents are completed properly and legibly, are controlled, stored, and readily retrievable for review • Schedules, organizes, and oversees the work of field staff • Ensure safety awareness, environmental awareness, quality assurance, and the effectiveness of survey personnel assigned to the project

What You Bring
• Practical experience in the application and adaptation of survey standards, techniques and procedures • Creativity, foresight, and mature judgment to identify potential problem areas and effect a solution at the earliest possible time • Must be able to write clearly and concisely to prepare reports, field notes, specifications, and correspondence • Must have a valid driver • Must have effective communication skills in working with the survey manager, clients, inspectors, etc. • Effective problem-solving skills, especially when dealing with conflicting personalities • Ability to travel as dictated by job requirements • Proficiency in PC computer operation, including spreadsheet and word processing programs. Experience in AutoCAD desired • Must have the ability to walk several miles per day while carrying supplies and equipment. Ability to clear a line with a machete, brush-axe, or chain saw is required • Must have experience working as a liaison between the survey manager, client-s personnel, construction inspectors, etc. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills • Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests • Must be able to perform job duties in a variety of outdoor terrain ranging from swamps to deserts to forests to mountains. Must also be able to perform job duties in various extreme climates. Must be able to deal with a variety of wildlife such as bears, snakes, spiders, insects, etc. • Must be very organized with field books, filed notes, sketches, JSA-s, incident reporting, etc. • Ability to perform mathematics such as algebra, geometry and trigonometry used in field survey analysis • Must be able to effectively manage five survey crews or more • High School Diploma • Must have knowledge in Global Positioning Systems (GPS) survey methods, electronic data collection, total stations, levels, various type of field software and the processes and computer programs necessary for survey data review and transfer to office • Five years minimum of supervisory experience with field crews • Must be knowledgeable in the methods and techniques of cross-country pipeline surveying • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age to apply
