About the Role
The role involves designing and specifying ports, harbours, berthing and mooring systems, coastal protection works and related infrastructure. Reporting to a Project or Engineering Manager, the engineer will lead smaller projects end‑to‑end and contribute to larger multi‑disciplinary programmes, applying sound engineering judgment and innovative solutions to meet client expectations. • Design and assess maritime and coastal structures using concrete, steel, timber, and engineered products • Produce engineering studies, designs, calculations, reports, specifications, and contract documentation • Lead small projects or manage work packages on larger multi‑disciplinary projects • Coordinate projects involving geotechnical, structural, dredging, and coastal elements • Review designs and documentation prepared by other engineers and drafters • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and supervision to junior engineers • Liaise with clients, statutory authorities, and external consultants • Deliver work within agreed scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards • Contribute to bids, proposals, and expressions of interest with scopes and estimates • Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, client requirements, and best practice • Participate actively in quality and continuous improvement programs

KBR is hiring a Senior Maritime Engineer (Structures) for its Sydney‑based team to lead the delivery of major maritime and coastal engineering projects across Australia. This senior technical position requires deep experience in designing maritime structures and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges while mentoring junior staff. Successful candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering and bring 10–15 years of maritime/coastal engineering experience, including design of ports and harbours. They must be commercially aware, proficient with analysis software, and able to obtain Chartered Professional Engineer registration in Australia. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering • Possess approximately 10–15 years of maritime/coastal engineering experience • Demonstrate strong experience in designing and assessing ports, harbours, and marine structures • Experience in consulting or commercial engineering environments • Proficient with structural and maritime analysis software such as SPACE GASS, Strand7, STAAD.Pro, SESAM, or OPTIMOOR • Experienced in managing projects or leading design packages • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams • Eligible for Chartered Professional Engineer (Engineers Australia) registration or able to obtain it within an agreed timeframe
