About the Role

Mortenson is seeking a Senior Sustainability Specialist who will manage greenhouse gas emissions inventories and leverage this data to shape strategic planning and actionable steps, ensuring that sustainability strategy and objectives are data‑driven and impactful. The role also includes mentoring and educating team members, influencing decisions that advance Mortenson’s sustainability goals, and aligning efforts with industry standards and emerging trends. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing processes for collecting scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions data across operations, procurement, supply chain, and product usage, applying GHG Protocol methodologies, and preparing comprehensive internal and external sustainability reports. The specialist will collaborate with accounting and external auditors to verify data integrity, support ESG disclosures, pre‑qualification requests, and climate financial risk reporting. The position designs and executes emission‑reduction strategies, sets and tracks progress toward targets, and identifies innovative decarbonization pathways. It also leads the transition from spreadsheets to advanced carbon‑accounting software, partners with Operations, Procurement, Finance, Accounting, and other teams to embed sustainability into business processes, and may support climate‑risk assessments for mitigation and adaptation. • Develop processes to collect scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions data across operations, procurement, supply chain, and product usage. • Apply GHG Protocol calculation methodologies to ensure accurate and consistent emissions reporting. • Prepare internal and external sustainability reports and coordinate with accounting and auditors for compliance. • Support ESG disclosures, pre‑qualification requests, and climate financial risk reporting. • Design and execute emission‑reduction strategies, set targets, and monitor progress toward decarbonization. • Lead migration from spreadsheets to advanced carbon‑accounting software for real‑time monitoring and forecasting. • Collaborate with Operations, Procurement, Finance, Accounting, and other teams to embed sustainability into decisions. • Assist with climate‑risk assessments, providing mitigation and adaptation insights for business resilience. • Mentor and educate team members on sustainability practices and standards.

What You Bring

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field, at least five years of sustainability experience—preferably in construction or infrastructure—expertise in emissions inventory and reporting, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel up to 50%. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship. • Travel up to 50% of the time as needed. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. • Provide at least five years of sustainability experience, preferably in construction or infrastructure. • Demonstrate expertise in emissions inventory management and sustainability reporting. • Maintain a valid driver’s license and legal authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
