About the Role

The Field Safety Specialist I works as a leader in the safety department under the direction of the Director of Safety and Health. This entry‑level position provides technical safety expertise by consulting with business lines, conducting observations, and performing assessments. The specialist recommends and guides safe work practices, documents adherence, and frequently leads analyses to identify safety‑related factors and corrective actions. Over time, and after safety leadership review, the specialist may guide and consult 10‑35 field employees daily to ensure safe work practices on the job. • Determine compliance with laws, regulations, or standards using judgment and information. • Provide consistent, technical interpretation of regulations, procedures, and standards. • Collaborate with operations to implement strategies supporting work execution and controls. • Identify, propose, and execute corrective action plans to eliminate safety risks. • Create sustainable safety culture, conditions, and practices. • Partner with safety professionals to coach and develop correction plans. • Participate in, facilitate, and conduct incident/accident investigations; recommend improvements and ensure corrective actions are implemented. • Identify training needs, develop programs, and instruct according to OSHA/DOT/state regulations. • Build productive relationships with field employees, supervisors, managers, and senior leaders to strengthen safety leadership and practices. • Engage employees and leaders to increase safe behaviors, rule adherence, and proactively identify barriers. • Partner with other safety specialists for escalations and lead briefings with senior leaders. • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors or defects. • Perform daily safety observations with face‑to‑face interaction.

What You Bring

Candidates should be proficient in OSHA recordkeeping, possess strong organizational, document‑management, and communication skills, and be able to exercise independent judgment under pressure. Relevant experience includes 3‑5 years in transmission power‑line construction, training and safety program management, and certifications such as OSHA 10‑ and 30‑hour, CPR/first aid, and a high‑voltage electrician journeyman. A BA/BS in health and safety or a related field is strongly preferred, with the ability to attain CSP, CUSP, and other advanced safety credentials. • Proficient in OSHA recordkeeping. • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion. • Strong organizational and document management skills. • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities. • Professional demeanor; remain calm under pressure. • Detail‑oriented with high accuracy. • Solid mathematical skills. • Comfortable working in a non‑traditional office environment. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. • Documented training and experience meeting qualifications. • CPR/first aid or EMT certification; experience managing a project safety program and training. • OSHA, MSHA, and Medic First Aid instructor certification preferred. • OSHA 10‑hour and 30‑hour (or equivalent) instructor. • Ability to attain CUSP before advancing. • Ability to communicate safety expectations through onboarding and orientation. • 3–5 years experience in transmission power line construction preferred. • BA/BS in health and safety or related field strongly preferred. • Ability to attain CSP (Certified Safety Professional). • Journeyman lineman or certified high‑voltage electrician. • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926 recordkeeping. • High school diploma or equivalent. • Valid driver’s license.
