About the Role

As a Transportation Engineer, you will join a highway/roadway design team on moderate to large projects and lead smaller ones. Responsibilities include preparing and overseeing horizontal and vertical alignment, roadway sections, intersection and interchange layouts, drainage, and right‑of‑way plans using local or AASHTO standards, as well as generating contract documents such as specifications, estimates, erosion control, site preparation, profiles, utility, paving, marking, signing, and traffic control plans. The role also involves using 3D modeling software to develop and review designs, assisting with scope, budget, and schedule preparation, communicating daily with clients, mentoring junior engineers, writing reports and technical memos, and coordinating sub‑consultants to keep projects on schedule and within budget. • Design highway/roadway alignments, sections, intersections, interchanges, and drainage using local/AASHTO standards. • Produce contract documents: plans, specifications, estimates, erosion control, site preparation, profiles, utility, paving, marking, signing, and traffic control plans. • Utilize 3D modeling software (e.g., Bentley ConceptStation, OpenRoads Designer, Autodesk InfraWorks, Civil 3D) for design development and review. • Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and client communications; mentor junior staff and coordinate sub‑consultants.

What You Bring

• Minimum of 3 years of roadway engineering design experience. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree and a Professional Engineer (PE) license. • Proficient in MS Office and CAD engineering software. • Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, and transportation planning. • Demonstrated commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned, inclusive culture.
