About the Role

We are hiring a Senior or Principal Transport Planner for our Manchester office, offering a hybrid schedule that mixes office and home work. In this role you will lead transport projects across multiple modes, develop strategies, policies and business cases, and guide programmes from conception to delivery. • Lead a variety of transport planning projects and proposals, providing both technical and commercial inputs. • Manage tasks within multi‑disciplinary teams and coordinate with other WSP service lines to deliver large projects from concept to completion. • Support acquisition and delivery of work for a diverse local client portfolio. • Conduct technical review and quality checking of team deliverables. • Take responsibility for the financial performance of projects and contribute to the team's commercial success. • Develop junior team members as a people manager or mentor, sharing knowledge and fostering growth. • Contribute actively to WSP's four key pillars: People, Clients & Growth, Operations, and Expertise. • Develop transport‑focused strategies, plans, and policies. • Work effectively with Local Authority and Combined Authority clients. • Manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines. • Deliver presentations and liaise with a range of audiences, including colleagues, public‑sector officials, and stakeholders.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in active travel, public transport and transport programme development, be skilled at shaping strategies and policies, and possess the ability to manage multiple projects, deliver presentations to varied audiences and mentor junior staff. • Demonstrate experience in active travel, public transport, and transport programme/scheme development, including design guidance and business case creation. • Exhibit commercial acumen and support wider team management, especially in guiding junior members.
