About the Role
The Mechanical Fitter will perform mechanical fitting, repairs, and minor machinery maintenance to support base-specific PAS activities. You will ensure plant, equipment and systems are kept to required standards through responsive and preventative maintenance, apply trade expertise to maintain operational readiness, and help manage hazards, risks and a safe, compliant environment.

What You Bring
We are now hiring permanent Mechanical Fitters for Randwick Barracks, with a start date of February 2026. The role is open to candidates from any background, whether they have Defence experience, industry knowledge, or transferable skills, and we are committed to a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued, and empowered. Successful candidates will have post-trade experience in mechanical fitting or maintenance, and proven ability in preventative and corrective upkeep of mechanical plant and equipment. Required qualifications include a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, a current driver’s licence, and the ability to obtain Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizenship). Desirable credentials are Confined Space Entry Certification and a White Card.
