About the Role
The Controller position is based in Long Island City, NY and reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The Controller oversees financial operations for E‑J Electric Installation Co’s nine divisions, including general ledger maintenance, operational reporting, regulatory compliance, and the management of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing functions. This role supports informed decision‑making at both leadership and project levels, leveraging expertise in construction accounting, job‑cost management, financial reporting, billing, and cash‑flow management. • Develop and enforce accounting policies, controls, and financial procedures. • Oversee daily accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and job‑cost accounting. • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and produce accurate financial statements with variance analysis. • Manage insurance reporting, bonding capacity, lien waivers, and compliance documentation. • Coordinate audits, tax reviews, and financial reporting with external auditors, advisors, bonding companies, and banks. • Maintain chart of accounts and departmental/project access structures. • Own the monthly close calendar and ensure timely WIP and management reporting. • Conduct monthly financial review meetings with divisional leaders to address performance, margin slippage, underbilling, and change orders. • Supervise accounts payable operations and vendor payment processes. • Oversee customer billing, progress billings, and contract‑based invoicing. • Ensure effective accounts receivable collections and control cash disbursements and receipts. • Direct payroll processing, certified payroll, union reporting, tax filings, and benefits deductions. • Manage payroll audits and related compliance requirements.

What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • Minimum 12 years of construction accounting experience with significant systems responsibility. • Strong knowledge of GAAP, job‑cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition. • Experience implementing or upgrading accounting/ERP systems. • Advanced Excel proficiency; reporting or BI tool experience a plus. • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and documentation skills. • Accounting and financial acumen. • Systems thinking and process design. • Attention to detail and data accuracy. • Cross‑functional communication. • Continuous improvement mindset.
