Senior Estimator - Heavy Civil/Highway

About the Role

The Senior Estimator at Sundt works with minimal oversight and serves as the principal point of contact for design teams and owners. This role leads all types of project delivery methods across civil infrastructure, transit, and highway projects. The estimator is responsible for delivering accurate cost projections and managing the bidding process throughout the project lifecycle. • Use advanced HCSS tools for estimate entry and quoting. • Estimate all scopes within discipline expertise. • Conduct detailed quantity take‑offs to create comprehensive cost estimates. • Calculate unit costs by analyzing crew composition, production rates, and equipment. • Participate in estimate reviews and provide thorough explanations. • Verify production rates using cost‑history database. • Prepare supplier bid packages to secure competitive material quotes. • Coordinate junior estimators and interns on take‑offs and vendor solicitation. • Obtain firm quotes from material suppliers, equipment providers, and subcontractors. • Review geotechnical reports and develop earthwork flow, haul diagrams, and project phasing. • Identify suitable quarries and produce aggregate, asphalt, and concrete while managing incentives and penalties. • Manage trench protection, shoring, and equipment selection for underground utilities; quantify and price mechanical assemblies and backfill. • Design falsework and formwork systems; evaluate post‑tensioning, precast, foundations, and crane selection for bridge and structure projects. • Occasionally climb stairs/ladders and perform occasional lifting, pushing, pulling. • Frequently stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands for tasks. • Required to wear personal protective equipment and comply with safety standards.

What You Bring

Candidates must have a four‑year engineering degree or equivalent experience, at least ten years of estimating work, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. LEED accreditation and DBIA certification are preferred, and a proven record as the primary project contact is required. The position includes occasional physical tasks such as climbing ladders and lifting objects, frequent standing, walking, reaching, and the use of personal protective equipment, and is classified as safety‑sensitive. Compensation ranges from $140,000 to $200,000 based on experience. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. • LEED accreditation and DBIA certification preferred or willingness to obtain. • Hold a four‑year engineering degree or equivalent technical training/experience. • Possess ten or more years of estimating experience. • Demonstrated success as primary point of contact on projects with minimal oversight. • Experience in one or more key market sectors relevant to the business unit.
