About the Role

AECOM leads innovation in water programmes, delivering long‑term frameworks for clients such as Uisce Éireann and Northern Ireland Water. This role offers a chance to become a technical expert, solving complex challenges across a diverse portfolio of projects. You will work within a team of roughly 600 water specialists across the UK and Ireland, collaborating with top‑tier engineers and consultants on projects ranging from small initiatives to large‑scale ventures, from concept through to completion. The position emphasizes safety, quality and stakeholder engagement, requiring participation in risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID studies and delivering robust safety documentation while maintaining programme, budget and quality targets. • Lead process and hydraulic design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the full lifecycle, ensuring compliance with standards and legislation. • Prepare, review and approve technical deliverables such as process flow diagrams, mass balances, P&IDs, control philosophies and safety documentation, and flag specialist input when required. • Provide technical leadership and quality assurance on multidisciplinary studies, managing risk, programme, budget and quality objectives. • Champion safe design by participating in HAZOP/HAZID studies and delivering key safety deliverables like Hazardous Area Classification and LOPA. • Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated, sustainable engineering solutions and support stakeholder decision‑making. • Mentor and develop junior engineers, delegating work, offering technical guidance and enhancing AECOM’s technical capability. • Support project delivery through site visits, asset surveys and commissioning activities as needed.

What You Bring

Candidates should hold a Chemical Engineering degree, be working towards or have Chartered Engineer status with IChemE or CIWEM, and possess experience in large‑scale wastewater treatment design, feasibility studies, functional safety and DSEAR compliance. • Degree in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent). • Working towards or achieved Chartered Engineer status with IChemE or CIWEM. • Experience delivering large‑scale wastewater treatment projects and process design using water company standards. • Knowledge of feasibility and optioneering studies for wastewater treatment processes. • Functional safety awareness and contribution to process safety design. • Familiarity with DSEAR regulations as applied to wastewater treatment.
