Job Highlights
About the Role
The role involves leading and mentoring junior engineers, performing a variety of civil engineering tasks, and contributing to state road rehabilitations, highway expansions, interchanges, and paving designs. We offer a hybrid remote work model, allowing 2‑3 days per week from home, and provide opportunities to work on exciting new projects and proposals. • Utilize specifications to develop highway and road designs, collaborating with engineers and clients. • Design horizontal and vertical geometry, analyze cross sections, and calculate super‑elevations and vertical clearances for California projects. • Serve as subject‑matter expert on complex interchanges, ramps, and loops. • Lead and mentor junior engineers across transportation projects. • Perform vertical clearance calculations, grading, permit and plan preparation, and new alignment designs. • Conduct material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and review contractor submittals. • Prepare specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.

What You Bring
Our Irvine, California office is hiring a highly experienced Senior/Principal Design Civil Engineer for our road, highway, and rail/transit team. As one of the world’s largest transportation planning, engineering, and construction firms, we deliver a diverse portfolio that includes rail, road, bridge, tunnel, and aviation infrastructure across all project phases. • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred); 8+ years road/highway design experience. • Strong background in horizontal/vertical geometrics and CAD drafting (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, OpenRoads). • Experience with complex interchanges, rampway design, and Caltrans projects preferred. • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California or other states highly preferred. • Proficient with CAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads/InRoads, and related engineering software. • Excellent written and oral communication with engineers and clients. • Ability to perform technical bid analyses and review contractor drawings.
