About the Role
The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for safely operating heavy machinery at recycling centers, landfills, or transfer stations to transfer, spread, cover, load, or compact waste or soil efficiently. Day‑to‑day duties include conducting pre‑ and post‑operation inspections, operating equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers and front‑end loaders according to safety standards, monitoring waste for prohibited materials, and keeping equipment in ready condition. The role also involves performing minor servicing, documenting equipment condition, and maintaining a clean work area at the end of each shift. • Conduct pre‑ and post‑operation equipment inspections per company policy. • Operate forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, front‑end loaders, and other heavy equipment safely. • Monitor waste streams for prohibited materials and ensure proper handling. • Keep equipment clean, maintain tracks/wheels, and report any issues to minimize downtime. • Perform minor equipment servicing and document maintenance needs; escalate complex repairs. • Complete Equipment Condition Reports and any required documentation each shift. • Follow all safety policies, keep the shop clean, and store tools properly at shift end. • Deliver courteous, professional customer service and act with honesty and trustworthiness. • Manage time efficiently to complete tasks safely and on schedule. • Follow through on work assignments, adhere to schedules, and avoid taking inappropriate risks.
