About the Role
The Director of Machine Learning is a senior leader responsible for shaping, executing, and scaling Equinix’s machine‑learning strategy. This role guides cross‑functional teams, oversees the development and deployment of advanced AI models, and ensures that machine‑learning initiatives drive innovation, efficiency, and measurable business impact. • Define and own a company‑wide ML strategy aligned with business objectives. • Identify high‑impact ML opportunities across products, operations, and customer experience. • Lead, mentor, and grow high‑performing ML engineering and data science teams. • Establish best practices for model development, experimentation, deployment, and monitoring. • Partner with engineering to build scalable ML infrastructure, MLOps pipelines, and cloud architecture. • Collaborate with product, engineering, data, and executive stakeholders to integrate ML into roadmaps. • Communicate model trade‑offs, risks, and timelines to non‑technical audiences. • Implement model governance, bias monitoring, versioning, and auditability processes. • Track and report key ML KPIs, model performance, and business impact. • Provide excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross‑functional collaboration. • Lead with coaching, talent development, and an innovation mindset driven by data‑focused decisions.

What You Bring
• Hold a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, ML, AI, Applied Mathematics, or related field. • Bring 10+ years of ML/AI engineering or applied research experience and 5+ years of people‑management experience. • Demonstrate expertise in deep learning, LLMs, reinforcement learning, generative models, and related frameworks. • Proficiency with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit‑learn, Hugging Face, and modern ML tools. • Strong background in MLOps, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and scalable data architectures. • Preferred experience building ML platforms at scale and working in regulated industries. • Experience with LLM fine‑tuning, retrieval‑augmented generation, or generative AI. • Exhibit strategic thinking, vision‑setting, and the ability to influence senior leaders.

Benefits
The targeted total cash compensation for this position in Redwood City, CA is $240,000 – $360,000 per year, with eligibility for bonus and equity based on the role and performance. Compensation is determined by role, level, location, and individual factors such as experience and education.
