About the Role

The Designated Driver Trainer (DDT) is a dual‑role position that combines routine vehicle operation with the responsibility of training new WM drivers. While maintaining service routes, the DDT mentors drivers to ensure safe, efficient, and regulatory‑compliant performance. This role balances daily operational duties with hands‑on coaching and performance evaluation. Key duties include operating the assigned WM vehicle in accordance with WM Safety, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws, performing pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, and delivering timely waste or recycling collection. The DDT conducts on‑the‑job training, observes driver performance, provides immediate feedback, and records progress and coaching recommendations. Performance data are reported to route and onboarding managers, and the trainer acts as an ambassador for WM’s safety culture. • Operate assigned WM vehicle safely and efficiently while complying with WM Safety, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws. • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and ensure timely waste or recycling collection. • Provide on‑the‑job training and coaching on vehicle operation, defensive driving, and safety practices for new and reassigned drivers. • Observe drivers, give immediate constructive feedback, and assess safe vehicle maneuvering. • Instruct drivers on WM SAFETY defensive driving skills, WM Way processes, and OBU tablet usage. • Maintain accurate records of driver progress, strengths, improvement areas, and training recommendations. • Report driver performance data to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager and recommend additional coaching. • Mentor drivers by offering guidance and support during their role transition. • Serve as a WM ambassador by promoting company values and safety standards.

What You Bring

Required qualifications are a high school diploma or GED, at least two years of experience operating a WM vehicle with a Class A or B CDL and air‑brake endorsement. Preferred candidates bring recent military driving experience and a history of supervising, training, or coaching personnel. • Hold a high school diploma or GED. • Possess at least two years of experience operating a WM vehicle with a Class A or B CDL and air‑brake endorsement. • Preferred: Two years of recent military driving experience. • Preferred: Two years of experience supervising, training, or coaching personnel.
