Landfill Civil & Environmental Engineer II

Job Highlights
About the Role
The work environment includes office tasks, occasional handling of objects under 30 lb, and site work that may expose the employee to chemicals, fuels, wastewater, construction hazards, dirt, odors, noise, and extreme weather; travel up to 50 % of the time within the assigned area is expected. • Develop understanding of permits for landfill disposal sites, transfer stations, collection operations, and material recovery facilities. • Procure and manage consulting firms for regulatory documents, focusing on design efficiency, constructability, quality, compliance, safety, and cost savings. • Assist senior WM engineers on construction projects, handling contract administration, material ordering, contractor scheduling, and CQA oversight. • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure permit compliance and resolve operational issues. • Prepare and review engineering, monitoring, and environmental reports. • Participate in environmental reviews and audits. • Work with landfill managers to set short‑term and long‑term goals aligned with WM objectives. • Identify and estimate site capital needs for inclusion in annual budget exercises. • Interact with state and local agencies to maintain positive relationships and ensure regulatory compliance. • Implement WM engineering directives and Best Management Practices at assigned sites. • Provide technical support to operations, sales staff, landfill managers, and environmental personnel. • Pursue continuing education to integrate new technologies and innovations into WM operations.

What You Bring
The position seeks an ambitious, curious individual with engineering technical skills who will work under mentorship to learn waste‑management processes—including landfill operations, regulatory permitting and compliance, construction, and environmental management systems—while actively participating in project planning, budgeting, accounting, contract negotiations, regulatory interaction, construction oversight, and operations. No supervisory duties are required. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least three years of experience in an engineering, technical, or environmental field, along with strong written and verbal communication, problem‑definition and data‑analysis abilities, proficiency in interpreting contracts and permits, report‑writing skills, and competence with Microsoft Office applications.
