About the Role
The position oversees cost management of complex work packages, managing risk, opportunity and profitability, and supports senior commercial team members with monthly commercial procedures such as the Cost Value Report. The role also leads safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability and compliance standards, applying technical expertise in local health and safety regulations while championing a diverse and inclusive environment. Working as part of the Senior Construction Delivery Team, you will build and influence relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, translate client vision into on‑site delivery plans, and lead a team of managers and professionals to deliver area plans with excellence. You will address subcontractor contractual claims, produce monthly client applications, approve invoices, draft technical correspondence, and manage design consultants and specialist fees, all while ensuring compliance with commercial and legal procedures. The role contributes to Mace’s net‑zero carbon transition by proactively identifying and managing associated emissions, ensures budgets are fiscally and ethically viable, and supports the development of long‑term business unit strategy. You will mentor junior team members, share knowledge through Mace’s Centres of Excellence and Knowledge Hub, and promote a culture of ownership and high performance. • Chair monthly project cost and risk meetings. • Drive cost control, risk management and profit optimisation for complex work packages. • Prepare and submit monthly Cost Value Reports and client applications. • Approve invoices and issue interim payment certificates (IPCs). • Draft technical and contractual correspondence; manage subcontractor claims and change orders. • Commercially manage design consultants and specialist fee arrangements. • Ensure site team complies with commercial, legal and safety procedures. • Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors and senior stakeholders. • Identify and manage carbon emissions to support net‑zero transition. • Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering a high‑performing team culture. • Network with clients and the contractor supply chain to promote Mace services. • Apply current construction technology knowledge across diverse contracts.

Within the consulting business, Mace combines leading‑edge practical expertise with project delivery consultancy to unlock potential in every project. • Possess strong financial and commercial acumen; understand construction plans and variation measurement. • Hold a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or equivalent. • Hold professional memberships/certifications such as MRICS, CIOB, SMSTS and a CSCS card. • Demonstrate excellent presentation, negotiation and contract law skills. • Exhibit leadership, strategic thinking and the ability to cascade objectives with effective tools.
