2nd Shift Machine OP III Machine Shop/Burn Table ATSM
Operate and set up metalworking machines to fabricate steel tanks per blueprints.
Job Highlights
About the Role
The Machine Operator reports to the ATSM Production Supervisor and works on the Marinette Operations site. The role involves setting up and operating a range of metal‑fabrication equipment to produce steel tanks and related components. Employees may be rotated to other departments based on skill set and production needs. Core duties include reading blueprints, laying out work pieces, and positioning punches, dies, blades and cutting tools on machines such as iron workers, shears, break presses, large radial drills, CNC burning machines, band saws and threading machines. The operator loads and unloads material with overhead hoists or cranes, selects appropriate cutting speeds, voltages and gas flow rates, and runs programs from memory or offline sources. After machining, the operator inspects parts for dimensional conformance, stamps heat numbers, and records data. When necessary, out‑of‑spec pieces are reworked, and tools are sharpened or replaced. Minor maintenance tasks such as lubrication, consumable changes, water‑table cleaning and small part replacements are performed to reduce downtime. Safety is a core obligation: employees must follow lock‑out/tag‑out procedures after six months, attend all safety and hazardous‑waste trainings, recognize chemical labels, and actively coach coworkers who act unsafely. All accidents and injuries must be reported immediately, and participants are encouraged to suggest improvements. • Set up and operate iron worker, shear, break press, radial drill, CNC burning machine, band saw, threading machine, and other equipment to fabricate steel tanks. • Read and interpret blueprints, layout work pieces, and position punches, dies, and blades to meet engineering specifications. • Load and unload machines using overhead hoists or cranes, and adjust cutting parameters such as voltage, speed, and gas flow. • Inspect machined parts for dimensional conformance, rework out‑of‑spec pieces, and stamp heat numbers for traceability. • Perform routine maintenance, lubricate components, replace consumables, and troubleshoot minor machine issues to minimize downtime. • Sharpen cutting tools, grind parts, and operate auxiliary equipment such as rolling machines and radial drill presses. • Train and support peers, document procedures, and maintain a clean, organized work area. • Comply with all safety training, report incidents, and act as a safety coach for coworkers.
