Lead civil engineering design, standards and QA for large water pipeline project

About the Role
The role provides technical leadership across civil engineering designs, covering pipelines, trenchless crossings, chambers, roads, utilities, pump stations, service reservoirs, and drainage, ensuring designs are buildable, safe, and compliant with client and regulatory standards. The Civil Discipline Lead will standardise design outputs, maintain high quality control, support construction and procurement teams, and represent the SPA engineering team in technical meetings and programme decisions. • Lead technical oversight of all civil engineering design outputs for pipelines, trenchless crossings, chambers, roads, utilities, pump stations, reservoirs and drainage. • Standardise design through creation and ownership of standard products, details and design guides to improve efficiency and consistency. • Ensure design outputs are buildable, safe, compliant with client, regulatory and industry standards, and deliver value for money. • Support construction and procurement teams by answering technical queries and advising on complex engineering issues. • Represent the SPA engineering team in key technical meetings and contribute to programme decision‑making. • Collaborate with the client, challenging asset standards and proven designs where appropriate.

What You Bring
Candidates should hold an engineering degree, preferably be chartered, and have extensive experience in large‑diameter water pipeline design, including steel, ductile iron and polyethylene, as well as related drainage and highway design, plus a proven record of technical leadership on major projects. This role is employed by Mott MacDonald, working across the joint‑venture with JN Bentley, and does not currently sponsor Skilled Worker visas. • Hold an engineering degree; chartered status preferred. • Demonstrated experience in design of large‑diameter water transfer pipelines (steel, ductile iron, polyethylene) and associated drainage/highway works. • Proven technical leadership on complex, major water industry projects within design‑and‑build environments.
