Quality Inspector - CWI
Inspect welded components, ensure compliance with codes, conduct QC tests, and support shop quality.
Job Highlights
About the Role
• Perform visual inspection of material as required. • Perform layout checks as needed. • Perform rotational capacity tests on bolts prior to use in shop. • Work with outside inspectors to resolve quality issues on the floor. • Monitor welder qualification tests. • Monitor and record welding parameters to ensure compliance with approved WPS. • Perform dimensional checks on lay‑downs and shop assemblies; use Total Station as needed. • Develop improvements in the quality control process to facilitate workflow. • Conduct audits of the Quality Management System. • Ensure quality work flow through the shop. • Work with welders and leadmen to maintain quality. • Maintain a log of work done and complete required reports. • Interpret specifications and applicable codes. • Coordinate inspection of QC hold points between production and DOT inspectors. • Use and encourage safe working habits. • Communicate inspection results effectively to crews, supervisors, and Quality Manager; evaluate problems and propose corrections. • Interpret blueprints and use measurement tools to verify geometric tolerances of fabricated parts and assemblies. • Coordinate with shipping department to ensure loads are inspected and ready to ship. • Plan work with supervisors to facilitate flow of quality work through the shop. • Apply general working knowledge of Total Station to assist crews and finalize assemblies during off‑shifts. • Promote a positive attitude, team morale, and coach employees for improved workmanship quality.

Candidates must hold a current CWI or ASNT VT Level II, and relocation assistance may be provided. • Read and understand welding code and specifications. • Be available via radio to perform needed checks. • Flexibly work early or late within assigned shift as needed. • Exhibit strong attention to detail and make informed decisions based on project codes and specifications. • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or ASNT VT Level II. • ASNT MT Level II. • ASNT UT Level II. • NACE or SSPC BCI Level I. • Fabrication shop background.
