About the Role

The Health & Safety Advisor supports day‑to‑day facility operations by ensuring compliance with company and regulatory safety requirements. This hands‑on role works closely with plant leadership and employees to promote a strong safety culture through visible presence, practical solutions, and proactive risk management. • Conduct daily yard and plant condition inspections. • Perform spot checks of Powered Industrial Equipment (PIE) operators for pre‑use inspections, safe operation, and compliance. • Monitor staff PPE use and safety signage to ensure compliance with standards. • Maintain a visible presence in the facility as a key point of contact for Health & Safety. • Proactively involve in all site activities that could impact Health & Safety. • Conduct safety audits, walkthroughs, and employee interviews. • Develop, review, and maintain Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs. • Update and manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and maintain site‑specific safety manuals. • Oversee PPE inventory and ordering. • Maintain health & safety communication boards and ensure document accessibility. • Deliver new‑hire safety onboarding and required training. • Support contractor onboarding and oversee compliance with health & safety standards. • Co‑chair Joint Health & Safety Committees and facilitate regular safety meetings. • Plan, coordinate, and document emergency drills. • Investigate incidents and near misses; document findings and corrective actions. • Participate in injury claim management and return‑to‑work planning. • Support Plant Managers and HR in monitoring open Workers’ Compensation claims. • Monitor changes to provincial health and safety legislation and ensure site compliance. • Develop, implement, and improve health and safety programs, standards, and procedures. • Participate in ongoing professional development and attend safety‑related training sessions and seminars. • Support project and job site activities to ensure health and safety requirements are met.

What You Bring

Ideal candidates hold post‑secondary education in Health and Safety or equivalent experience, a minimum of five years’ safety experience in a manufacturing environment, and proficiency in spoken and written English. Relevant certifications such as CRSP, CHSC, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space, or Train‑the‑Trainer are assets, along with a valid driver’s licence. Core competencies include deep knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, hazard identification, incident investigation, emergency preparedness, and strong communication and facilitation skills. • Post‑secondary education in Health and Safety or equivalent experience preferred. • Minimum 5 years of health & safety experience in a manufacturing environment. • Proficiency in spoken and written English. • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), or equivalent designation considered an asset. • Additional certifications such as First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space, or Train‑the‑Trainer preferred. • Valid driver’s licence. • In‑depth knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation (provincial and federal). • Skilled in hazard identification, risk assessment, and control implementation. • Experience leading incident investigation and root cause analysis. • Knowledgeable in emergency preparedness and response coordination. • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain health and safety programs. • Strong understanding of plant, yard, and industrial operations. • Ability to integrate safety initiatives into daily operational practices. • Familiarity with mechanical and material handling equipment. • Clear, professional verbal and written communication. • Strong facilitation, coaching, and conflict resolution skills. • Ability to engage employees and management in continuous safety improvement. • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy; incident data tracking, analysis, and KPI reporting. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); safety management software experience an asset. • Strong time management, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. • Ability to maintain documentation in line with internal and regulatory requirements. • Responsive to operational changes and evolving priorities.
