About the Role

The Senior Database Administrator/Engineer at Republic Services installs, configures, upgrades, administers, and monitors enterprise database systems. The role works closely with Infrastructure and Applications teams to design and consult on new and existing systems, aiming to optimize performance and reliability. Key responsibilities include managing and optimizing relational databases such as Oracle and SQL Server as well as cloud services like AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, and Google Cloud. The engineer designs scalable, secure, high‑performance architectures for both on‑premise and cloud environments, performs stored‑procedure tuning, oversees installation, patching, upgrades, user provisioning, and data‑integrity processes such as backup and restore. They also provide guidance on administration tools, mentor staff, handle escalated support issues, and participate in on‑call rotation. • Manage and optimize Oracle, SQL Server, and other relational databases. • Design and implement cloud‑based database architectures and migrations (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). • Perform stored‑procedure tuning and rewrite inefficient code to improve execution efficiency. • Oversee installation, patching, upgrades, user provisioning, and security for all enterprise databases. • Ensure data integrity through robust backup, restoration, and cleanup processes. • Provide technical guidance on database tools, best‑practice standards, and performance testing. • Mentor staff and developers, act as a technical escalation point, and participate in on‑call rotation.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least five years of experience with two or more relational databases (SQL Server 2012+, Oracle 12c+, MySQL) and two years with NoSQL platforms such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Hadoop, plus two years in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google, Oracle). Required skills include performance tuning, T‑SQL, PL/SQL, data‑warehousing, and expertise across the software development lifecycle. Additional knowledge of Snowflake, MDM, and big‑data tools is advantageous, as is the ability to produce documentation, reports, and collaborate with IT personnel at all levels. • Minimum 5 years experience with relational DBMS (SQL Server 2012+, Oracle 12c+, MySQL). • Minimum 2 years experience with NoSQL platforms (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Hadoop). • Minimum 2 years experience in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud). • Expertise in performance tuning, T‑SQL, PL/SQL, data warehousing, and DBMS internals.
