About the Role
The Waste Engineering Sub‑Business Class Leader (SBCL) partners with the Business Class Lead (BCL) and peers to advance technical competencies, staff development, and quality assurance across the business class. The role may focus on a technical specialty or a geographic area, and includes mentoring, leading practice groups, and serving as an independent reviewer for complex projects. Key duties include supporting the BCL in strategic planning, resource allocation, and the development of technical tools and standards; ensuring staff are aware of emerging technologies; and facilitating knowledge transfer, client development, and industry representation. The SBCL also monitors performance against goals, drives recruitment and training, and coordinates hires with national, regional, and local leadership. • Provide company‑wide leadership of technical capabilities within the business class. • Develop and apply technical tools, standards, and recommended practices. • Ensure technical staff monitor emerging technologies. • Assign qualified staff to projects and support work sharing. • Deliver strategic business trend analysis and implement strategic plans. • Monitor adherence to policies, quality standards, and resource allocation. • Build technical expertise through recruitment, training, and knowledge transfer. • Coordinate hires with business group leadership at national, regional, and local levels. • Facilitate technical experts for client development and project pursuits. • Represent HDR in industry organizations through presentations and publications. • Capture and share lessons learned to improve project delivery. • Track performance metrics and implement corrective actions.

What You Bring
Required qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field, a professional registration, and at least ten years of relevant experience, including team leadership and cross‑functional collaboration. Preferred credentials include a master’s degree and experience delivering projects across multiple market sectors in North America.
