Bridge Engineer

About the Role

• Prepare bridge designs following the Caltrans PS&E process. • Design bridges (steel plate girder, prestressed concrete, segmental, cable) and related structures such as box culverts and interchanges for highway and railway projects. • Select standard engineering procedures, develop structural details with specialized software, perform load calculations, and assist with geometric layout and quantity development. • Review, assign, and check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by junior engineers and EITs. • Mentor and guide junior staff members.

What You Bring

• Hold a master’s degree in Structural Engineering. • Have at least three years of bridge design experience. • Experience working with Caltrans Districts 7, 8, 11, or 12. • Familiarity with Caltrans Bridge Design Manuals and Seismic Design Criteria (SDC). • Possess a bachelor’s degree and prior bridge design experience. • Maintain a professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) for the job location. • Proficient with Bluebeam Revu and bridge design/analysis software such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, MIDAS Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, and STLBridge. • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, Autodesk Infraworks, and Civil3D. • Skilled in Microsoft Office, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, and prestressed concrete design tools. • Experience managing junior staff and providing technical guidance. • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team. • Demonstrated commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
