About the Role

Bridge Tenders at Velociti Services operate bridges, canal locks, and lighthouses to enable safe marine passage on inland waterways, near shores, and at hazardous points. They may supervise drawbridge, lock, and slip bridge operations, ensuring smooth flow of marine, vehicle, cyclist, and pedestrian traffic. • Follow all company procedures, policies, and rules. • Provide safe, courteous openings for marine traffic. • Ensure safe passage for vehicle traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians. • Follow all safety protocols. • Inform supervisor immediately of all incidents, malfunctions, and accidents. • Ensure the safety of maintenance personnel. • Prioritize safety in all actions. • Build respectful relationships with teammates and guests. • Keep accurate, legible logs per FDOT guidelines. • Guard bridge stations and monitor waterways for boat traffic. • Write and submit maintenance work requisitions. • Verify bridges are clear of vehicles and pedestrians before opening. • Stop automobile and pedestrian traffic and lower gates prior to moving bridges. • Raise drawbridges, observe water traffic passage, then lower bridges and raise gates. • Prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate. • Perform occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, balancing, and climbing. • Maintain auditory and visual acuity for inspection and tracking.

What You Bring

The role requires strict adherence to company policies, safety protocols, and regulatory manuals from FDOT and the U.S. Coast Guard. Effective communication on VHF radio, accurate logkeeping, and prompt reporting of incidents are essential to maintain safety for marine traffic, maintenance personnel, and the public. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and demonstrate strong problem‑solving, communication, and customer‑service skills. A positive, accountable attitude and the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks are highly valued. • Read and comprehend FDOT and U.S. Coast Guard manuals, rules, and procedures. • Communicate effectively in English using VHF marine radio. • Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. • Hold a High School diploma or GED. • Be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license. • Excellent verbal comprehension and written communication skills. • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities. • Attention to detail and passion for customer service. • Positive attitude, accountability, and dependability. • Meet weight‑limitation safety rating, including 300 lb rating for ladders and fall‑arrest equipment. • Lift up to 50 lb as needed.
