About the Role
The Senior Corporate Counsel (Employment) provides legal advice on employment law issues, projects, and litigation for Republic Services across the United States and Canada. This role supports the company's operations in the environmental services industry and reports to the Chief Legal Officer. Key responsibilities include advising on federal, state, and local employment compliance (e.g., ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FMLA, FLSA), overseeing litigation and managing outside counsel, collaborating with Corporate and Field HR to mitigate legal risk, monitoring new employment legislation, and leading internal investigations while preserving attorney-client privilege. The counsel also coordinates with government agencies, develops policies, delivers training, and prepares reports for senior leadership and the Audit Committee. • Provide legal counsel on employment law compliance, including ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FMLA, and FLSA. • Oversee litigation, disputes, and administrative matters, managing strategy and outside counsel. • Collaborate with Corporate and Field HR to identify legal risks and recommend resolutions. • Monitor and interpret new employment-related statutes, regulations, and case law. • Conduct internal employment investigations while preserving attorney-client privilege. • Coordinate inquiries and investigations with agencies such as the Department of Labor and EEOC. • Lead employment law projects and develop company policies and procedures. • Design and deliver training on employment law topics for managers and staff. • Manage internal legal staff and work with cross-functional teams on employment initiatives. • Prepare reports for the Chief Legal Officer, senior management, and the Audit Committee.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a JD, be licensed in good standing, and have at least seven years of practicing attorney experience, with ten or more years handling complex employment matters in a large multi-state corporate environment. Required skills include strong judgment, integrity, collaboration, excellent written and oral communication, and experience advising in unionized settings.
