About the Role
The Underground Groundman is an entry‑level position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. Work is performed at various sites and may require travel to other states based on customer demands. • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de‑energized underground electrical systems safely. • Set and install pad‑mount transformers. • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good condition. • Execute rigorous physical labor, including climbing structures and working in trenches, manholes, heights, and confined spaces. • Use company radio and follow basic rigging, hand lines, and knot‑tying procedures. • Identify primary and secondary voltage and recognize induced voltage on circuits. • Assist with installation and hookup of single‑phase transformers. • Conduct basic bucket rescue/escape operations. • Set up and ground equipment, adhering to minimum approach distances and excavation/shoring requirements. • Check voltage on transformers and install/remove services. • Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE) and wear appropriate PPE. • Apply Kellum grips correctly and identify various line‑work materials. • Travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at multiple locations.
