About the Role
The engineer will collaborate with the design team to create detailed, efficient roadway designs that meet local regulations, industry standards, and project specifications. Responsibilities include developing project plans, feasibility studies, cost estimates, selecting materials, preparing engineering specifications, and producing alignment and geometric designs for roads and intersections while ensuring safety and accessibility. Additional duties involve obtaining permits and approvals from relevant authorities, providing technical support during construction, conducting inspections and quality‑control checks, and integrating environmental considerations such as storm‑water management. The role also requires monitoring project progress, budgets, and schedules, and building strong internal and external professional relationships with colleagues, jurisdictions, and contractors. • Develop detailed roadway alignment and geometric designs for roads and intersections. • Prepare engineering specifications and select appropriate construction materials. • Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, and project planning for roadway infrastructure. • Secure permits and approvals from local, state, and federal agencies. • Provide technical support during construction, reviewing plans and resolving design issues. • Perform inspections and quality‑control checks to ensure compliance with design standards. • Incorporate environmental considerations such as storm‑water management into designs. • Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules to keep work on track.

Kimley‑Horn’s Orlando, Florida office is hiring a Civil Engineer with at least four years of experience to join its Roadway team. This on‑site position is not remote and offers the chance to work alongside a group of engineers and designers on diverse projects. Candidates must have four or more years of relevant engineering design experience, a Professional Engineering (PE) license—or the ability to obtain one within twelve months—and proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D. A solid understanding of civil and traffic engineering principles, strong problem‑solving and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects collaboratively are essential. • Hold a PE license (or obtain within 12 months) and 4+ years of roadway design experience. • Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D. • Strong knowledge of civil engineering, roadway design, and traffic engineering principles. • Excellent verbal and written communication and collaborative teamwork skills.
