About the Role

The Leadman provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to other craft workers in the work crew, assisting the Foreman while operating in the capacity of a journeyman. This role combines supervisory duties with hands‑on pipefitting expertise. The Leadman lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping systems, supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production‑processing systems. The work covers a wide range of industrial applications requiring precise installation and ongoing maintenance. Key responsibilities include selecting appropriate materials, inspecting sites, planning installation sequences, performing pipe cutting, threading, bending, and assembly, as well as testing for leaks and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The Leadman also supports refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, monitors production equipment, and assists with material handling and minor maintenance. • Select pipe type, size, and related materials and equipment per specifications. • Inspect worksite for obstructions. • Plan installation sequence to avoid obstructions and other workers. • Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer, chisel, cutting torch, or pipe cutting machine. • Thread pipe using a threading machine. • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe‑bending tools and machine. • Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceilings. • Assemble and install metal or non‑metal pipes and fittings using various joint methods. • Secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand and power tools. • Install and maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping. • Test piping systems for leaks by pressurizing and observing gauges. • Weld pipe supports to structural steel members. • Observe production machines to detect malfunctions and operate machinery to verify repairs. • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing material and work pieces during installation. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Use respiratory protection as required. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures and objects.

The job involves significant physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 lb, and operating with 70 ft‑lb of force. Additional demands include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering at varying frequencies.
