About the Role
The Junior Data Engineer role joins a growing team of data professionals, supporting senior and principal engineers throughout the design and solution lifecycle. The position focuses on building and maintaining data pipelines, assisting with quality assurance, and contributing to the development of cloud‑based workflow orchestration. It offers a learning‑oriented environment where new graduates can gain hands‑on experience across the full data engineering stack. • Support delivery of data solutions and pipelines alongside senior engineers. • Collaborate with data analysts, scientists, and stakeholders to gather requirements. • Participate in quality assurance and refinement through reviews and investigations. • Develop workflow orchestration using cloud tools such as Apache Airflow or Azure Functions. • Monitor solution and system health, track metrics, and troubleshoot using logging tools. • Create and maintain user and technical documentation for deployed tools. • Ensure compliance with data governance, including metadata management and access controls. • Continuously learn emerging tools, cloud technologies, and industry practices. • Contribute to team discussions and solution shaping with a proactive mindset. • Assist in technical reviews to identify and resolve issues. • Support prototyping and proof‑of‑concept development for client data solutions. • Provide operational assistance to fellow data teams. • Participate in compliance and governance activities as needed.

What You Bring
The position is based in Bristol, United Kingdom (3 Rivergate), operating under a hybrid work model within the DCS Business Group of AECOM Limited. This role does not provide visa sponsorship. • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience). • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, JavaScript, Scala, C#) with a desire to grow. • Working knowledge of SQL for relational database querying and management. • Understanding of core data concepts: relational/non‑relational models, dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT, data warehouse vs data lake. • Basic familiarity with APIs or REST principles. • Experience with version control (Git) and basic CI/CD concepts. • Practical experience (internship, academic, or early professional) supporting analytics, data manipulation, or system development. • Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform). • Familiarity with cloud‑native data services (Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, BigQuery). • Exposure to data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Kafka.
