About the Role

The Civil Engineer will support business-unit growth through quality engineering design for civil, roads and highways, as well as project and design management functions. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating and delivering complex highway and road infrastructure designs, providing engineering advice to stakeholders, and ensuring safety, digital design integration and client satisfaction. • Manage end-to-end design lifecycle for major highways and road infrastructure projects, including scoping, design development, and technical assurance. • Oversee preparation of designs, reports, specifications, and 2D/3D digital models, ensuring compliance with client requirements, standards, and quality benchmarks. • Serve as primary contact for clients, contractors, and internal teams, facilitating design reviews, workshops (e.g., Safety in Design), and approvals. • Utilize ProjectWise and BIM platforms to manage digital design data, workflows, and deliverables. • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to capability building through the Highways Academy and internal knowledge-sharing platforms; manage multidisciplinary design coordination. • Lead and manage design review activities with internal and external stakeholders to meet program and quality requirements. • Ensure diligent quality assurance, including team selection, competency management, and verification of design requirements. • Understand key technical requirements and identify deliverables to fulfill client scope.

Building on recent growth in the Highways Alliance and Design & Construct market across Australia, the Roads and Highways team in Sydney is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer. The role offers the chance to shape and expand the design-management offering while supporting the wider transport team’s growth. Emphasis is placed on embedding technical excellence at the core of every project. Candidates should hold a civil engineering degree (or equivalent) and have at least five years’ experience delivering transport infrastructure for design-for-construction contractors, PPPs or alliances. Proven ability to manage complex design interfaces, multidisciplinary teams and to meet client and stakeholder requirements is essential, alongside strong communication and negotiation skills. • Hold a degree in civil engineering or equivalent qualification. • Have 5+ years’ experience delivering transport infrastructure engineering for design-for-construction contractors, PPPs or alliances. • Demonstrated ability to manage complex design interfaces and multidisciplinary teams. • Familiar with client and stakeholder requirements such as stage gates, comment close-out and design maturity levels. • Strong communication, negotiation and client relationship skills.
