The position supports specification project management by resolving technical and administrative issues, reviewing drawings, writing and editing specifications, and ensuring alignment with project requirements, institutional guidelines, firm standards, and applicable laws and codes. Responsibilities also include planning and scheduling specification deliverables for project milestones, preparing procurement and Division 01 General Requirements sections, and coordinating consultant specifications to adhere to firm formatting conventions. The writer conducts product research, assists designers with material selections, and collaborates with internal architects and other disciplines such as structural engineering and landscape architecture on specification manuals. ECS is seeking an experienced Specification Writer II for the Pacific Facilities team in Walnut Creek, CA. The role involves guiding design teams on product selection, preparing and editing construction specifications, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and coordinating with architects, engineers, and consultants throughout all project phases. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented with a solid background in architecture or construction and a passion for staying current on building technologies and industry trends. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED; a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Building Science or a related field is preferred. Six years of architectural or commercial interiors experience and at least three years of writing AIA MasterFormat specifications are required. Membership in the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and certifications such as CDT, CCS, LEED AP, or a licensed architect or engineer are advantageous, and a valid driver’s license is required for company travel. Required skills include product research, strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, construction methodology, and product suitability, as well as the ability to read construction drawings, programs, criteria documents, details, and specifications. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (advanced Word), Bluebeam Revu & Studio, Adobe Acrobat, and familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit are important.
