About the Role

The Lead Engineer provides hands‑on technical leadership and day‑to‑day oversight of building operations and engineering activities. Serving as the primary technical resource on shift, this role supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of building systems while coordinating work activities and supporting engineering staff. The Lead Engineer works closely with the Engineering Manager and Assistant Chiefs to maintain operational standards, support preventative‑maintenance programs, and respond to operational issues. Key responsibilities include serving as the on‑site technical lead, performing advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life‑safety systems, and coordinating daily work activities to prioritize operational needs. The role also oversees vendor and contractor activities, responds to emergencies, ensures compliance with safety procedures and regulatory requirements, and maintains accurate documentation and logs in applicable systems. Additionally, the Lead Engineer supports training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing within the engineering team. • Lead on‑site engineering team, guiding staff and coordinating daily work. • Perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life‑safety systems. • Prioritize tasks to support building operations and oversee preventive‑maintenance programs. • Manage vendor and contractor activities for scheduled and corrective work. • Respond to emergencies, escalating issues as needed and ensuring safety compliance. • Maintain accurate logs, documentation, and CMMS records. • Mentor and train engineering staff to share knowledge.

What You Bring

Required qualifications are demonstrated experience in commercial building operations or facilities engineering, strong working knowledge of building systems and equipment, and proven ability to lead work activities and support a team environment. Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills are essential, and familiarity with CMMS and building automation systems is preferred. The work environment is hands‑on, supporting building operations in occupied and mechanical spaces, and may require flexibility in scheduling, including off‑hours or emergency response. The estimated compensation range for this position is $73,985.00 – $88,000.00 USD per year, with final packages determined by qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations. The role is based on‑site in Westport, CT.
