About the Role
The engineer directs consulting firms on permit applications, construction plans, site monitoring, and regulatory submissions, and ensures final deliverables meet quality standards. They act as the primary point of contact with regulators, representing WM at meetings, hearings, and inspections, and manage landfill construction projects from planning through contract administration and quality assurance. Responsibilities also include capital budget tracking, landfill capacity analysis, site compliance evaluations, and collaboration with internal experts to devise cost‑effective solutions for landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations. The role supports acquisition due‑diligence and provides mentorship to technical staff. The position operates in a hybrid office‑field environment, requiring routine use of standard office equipment and occasional field work. • Lead and manage consulting firms for permit applications, construction plans, site monitoring, and regulatory submittals. • Serve as primary liaison with regulators, representing WM in permit meetings, hearings, and inspections. • Oversee landfill construction projects, including consultant and contractor coordination, budgeting, bid administration, and quality assurance. • Track and report capital budgets for engineering and construction projects per company procedures. • Perform landfill capacity tracking, airspace calculations, and develop fill sequencing and closure schedules. • Conduct site evaluations for compliance, permit acquisition, and expansion opportunities. • Collaborate with internal experts to deliver cost‑effective engineering solutions for landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations. • Participate in acquisition reviews and divestiture evaluations, providing proforma modeling and due‑diligence support. • Mentor and supervise technical staff, providing training and guidance.

What You Bring
The role seeks an experienced engineer in the environmental and solid waste sector to lead technical projects, manage engineering and construction at solid waste disposal facilities, and mentor junior staff. The engineer will apply strong problem‑solving and management skills to advance WM’s leadership in comprehensive waste management services. Candidates must hold an accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field and possess a minimum of seven years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications are not listed.
