Early Career Geotechnical Engineer
Support geotechnical projects in mining, performing field work, analysis, and reporting.
Job Highlights
About the Role
In this position you will support senior and intermediate engineers on open‑pit and underground mining rock‑mechanics and mine‑closure projects. Responsibilities include field work such as data collection, testing, surveying, drilling coordination, core logging and construction monitoring, followed by data reduction, analysis, and stability assessments using 2D and 3D models. You will also research specific rock‑engineering problems, assist with geotechnical characterizations, and prepare technical reports. The role combines both office and field activities. • Support senior engineers on open‑pit and underground mining rock‑mechanics and mine‑closure projects. • Conduct field work including data collection, testing, surveying, drilling coordination, core logging, and construction monitoring. • Perform data reduction, analysis, and stability assessments using 2D/3D modeling tools. • Research and evaluate specific rock engineering and mine‑closure challenges. • Prepare technical reports and assist with geotechnical characterizations for mining projects. • Apply geotechnical principles such as slope stability, seismic engineering, retaining wall design, and ground improvement. • Execute project management tasks: scoping, tracking hours and expenses for small‑to‑mid‑size projects. • Communicate technical information effectively to both engineering and non‑engineering audiences. • Uphold a safety‑first mindset and adhere to QA/QC standards. • Travel to other WSP offices as required. • Perform technical calculations, interpret plans/specifications, and ensure regulatory compliance. • Manage small projects and track budgets effectively.
