About the Role

The Data Center Operating Engineer (Union) will assist with hands‑on maintenance of building systems to ensure safe, efficient, and proper operation of assigned properties. The role includes minor repairs, monitoring, and preventive maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and power generation equipment. • Install, maintain, repair, and operate mechanical, electrical, and power generation systems. • Operate equipment safely following regulations, policies, and SOPs. • Learn building control, electrical, and UPS systems via on‑job training and manuals. • Conduct predictive, planned, preventive, and routine maintenance per JLL PM program. • Inspect and repair pumps, fans, valves, motors, and related equipment. • Perform visual inspections, read blueprints/specifications, and follow job standards. • Analyze and resolve work problems while meeting performance goals. • Record time, production data, and handle customer service requests. • Collaborate as a team player to foster a positive work environment. • Service mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire, life safety, and control systems. • Monitor and maintain HVAC, refrigeration, water cooling, boilers, and related equipment. • Respond promptly to tenant service requests. • Follow building policies for hazardous material storage, use, and disposal. • Serve as on‑call engineer as needed. • Participate in emergency response and safety training programs. • Use proper safety equipment and work safely at all times.

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED and have at least four years of relevant building‑maintenance experience, plus an accredited trade‑school degree in HVAC, electronics, or a related field. Union membership in good standing is required, and the candidate must possess a Universal CFC certification (or obtain it within 90 days). Familiarity with ladders, lifts, hand tools, voltmeters, and safety equipment is expected. The position requires the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and procedure documents, as well as to write routine reports and log data. Proficiency with standard office technology—PC, tablet, Microsoft Office, and CMMS—is required. Basic algebra, geometry, and calculation skills are needed for load‑balancing and other measurements, and strong problem‑solving abilities are essential. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 25 lb regularly (up to 50 lb occasionally). The work environment exposes the employee to electrical shock risk, moving mechanical parts, heights up to 30 ft, and variable temperature and noise conditions. The position is on‑site in Bear, DE, does not provide visa sponsorship, and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
