About the Role
• Respond to corrective maintenance work orders and unplanned fire system faults within contract‑specified response times. • Conduct root cause analysis and diagnosis using manuals, standards, and asset history. • Perform rectification work, including repair or replacement of faulty fire system components. • Implement make‑safe or temporary repairs and escalate major component replacements as needed. • Verify and test corrective maintenance work to ensure compliance with standards and Defence policies.

Downer is celebrating a major milestone after being awarded the Property and Asset Services (PAS) contract to deliver base and estate services in NSW/ACT and QLD, reinforcing its 80‑plus‑year relationship with the Australian Defence Force. We are now hiring a permanent Fire Systems Technician for Lavarack Barracks in Townsville, with a start date of February 2026, and we welcome candidates from all backgrounds, whether they have defence experience, industry knowledge, or transferable skills. • Certificate III in Fire Systems Testing and Inspection. • Fire Protection Accreditation (FPAA) and QBCC Fire Protection Licence (QLD). • Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizenship required). • Post‑trade experience in fire systems fault diagnosis, corrective maintenance, and repair. • Proven ability to conduct root cause analysis, fault finding and compliance testing. • Experience responding to unplanned or reactive work orders within required response times. • Strong work ethic, positive attitude and commitment to delivering high‑quality outcomes.
