Dynamics Engineer - Submarines
Assess impact, seismic, shock, and vibration for submarine steam raising plant components.
Job Highlights
About the Role
In this role you will undertake a broad range of mechanical assessments, including linear, non‑linear and dynamic finite element analyses, using hand calculations, commercial finite element codes and bespoke analysis tools. You will use assessment work to develop and substantiate component designs, inform through‑life management and pursue regulatory approval for current and future class submarines. You will develop and implement methodologies to assess components and define testing programmes to support those methods, and you will communicate the methods and outcomes clearly to audiences at all seniorities within Rolls‑Royce, industry partners and customers. • Perform linear, non‑linear and dynamic finite element analyses on submarine steam‑raising plant components. • Apply hand calculations and commercial/bespoke finite element software to assess structural integrity. • Develop and validate component designs, supporting through‑life management and regulatory approval. • Create assessment methodologies and define testing programmes for component verification. • Communicate assessment methods and results clearly to senior stakeholders, partners and customers.

What You Bring
Essential qualifications include a degree in mechanical engineering, physics or mathematics (or equivalent experience), the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a demonstrated interest in dynamic analysis and testing. Desirable qualifications include solid knowledge of failure mechanisms and assessment methods, practical experience using finite element methods for structural component assessment, proficiency with LS‑DYNA, Abaqus, ANSYS, HyperMesh and the Oasys suite, experience in safety‑critical industries and multidisciplinary design teams, and membership or associate membership of a relevant professional institution with progress toward chartership. Candidates must hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without caveats and be UK nationals; Rolls‑Royce will support the security clearance application and any additional checks required for dual nationals. The selection process may include an online assessment covering cognitive and behavioural aptitude tests, with full instructions provided as needed. • Hold a degree in mechanical engineering, physics or mathematics or equivalent experience. • Prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Demonstrate interest in dynamic analysis and testing. • Possess knowledge of failure mechanisms and experience with finite element assessments. • Proficient in LS‑DYNA, Abaqus, ANSYS, HyperMesh and the Oasys suite. • Experience in safety‑critical environments and multidisciplinary design teams. • Membership or associate membership of a relevant professional institution and progress toward chartership. • Must obtain Security Check (SC) clearance; Rolls‑Royce will support the application. • Require UK nationality; dual nationals subject to additional scrutiny.
