About the Role

The team develops CoStar’s recommendation systems, personalization features, and user‑behavior analytics across consumer marketplaces such as Homes.com, Apartments.com, and LoopNet, helping users discover relevant properties, understand market trends, and engage more deeply with the products. The Director of Applied Machine Learning & Analytics role is based in San Diego (UTC Area) with an in‑office schedule Monday through Thursday and remote work on Friday, leading the full‑lifecycle development of this critical platform. • Lead managers to deliver measurable outcomes aligned with business goals. • Oversee development and execution of scalable data pipelines, APIs, and machine learning models for performance, reliability, and user engagement at scale. • Set strategy for building and delivering recommendation systems, personalization, and analytics across high‑traffic consumer marketplaces. • Partner with product leadership to translate goals into actionable technical plans. • Guide architectural decisions and ensure technical quality without direct coding. • Track progress, remove blockers, and keep teams aligned on objectives. • Coordinate with technical leads across the organization on architecture, timelines, and execution.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, not‑for‑profit university or college. • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, analytics, or data infrastructure; at least 5 years in a leadership role. • Proven track record of shipping reliable, scalable, high‑performance software for consumer‑facing applications. • Strong foundation in software engineering principles and production system delivery. • Expertise with cloud architectures, especially AWS and Databricks. • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across product and engineering to translate business goals into production‑ready systems. • History of building and maintaining a collaborative, high‑performance team culture. • Experience building recommendation systems or personalization features at scale. • Background in consumer marketplaces or high‑volume, user‑facing platforms. • Experience with real‑time data pipelines and performance‑sensitive systems. • Ability to coordinate cross‑functional teams to deliver aligned product and engineering outcomes. • Experience identifying AI opportunities to improve product features, decision‑making, and internal workflows.
