Senior Engineering Cost & Estimation Specialist
Cost estimator & engineer for crane projects, blending design and cost analysis.
Job Highlights
About the Role
Around 70% of the responsibilities focus on project cost estimation and commercial‑technical coordination with various stakeholders, with the remaining 30% dedicated to selected engineering and analytical tasks, including hands‑on design work and subcontractor coordination. The Engineer will also uphold WCS’ HSE compliance policy, act as an ambassador for DP World by promoting its values and safety culture, and collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. • Develop and continuously improve project cost estimates during enquiry and tender stages. • Prepare and maintain detailed cost models, transitioning from Excel to ERP‑based tools. • Ensure estimates are realistic, complete, and aligned with technical assumptions. • Support preparation of technical‑commercial offers, maintaining scope, pricing, and exclusions consistency. • Break down project scope into cost elements such as engineering effort, materials, subcontracted services, logistics, installation, and overheads. • Improve estimation methodologies, templates, and assumptions databases. • Capture lessons learned from executed projects and integrate them into future estimates. • Standardize cost breakdown structures (CBS) aligned with engineering work breakdown structures (WBS). • Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, testing, and R&D teams across WCS business segments. • Design, validate, and approve parts for manufactured products, upgrades, and refurbishments. • Develop solutions to extend crane life, including structural modifications and maintenance schedules. • Implement and monitor HSE compliance policies and act as a DP World ambassador in all activities.

What You Bring
This role blends core structural/mechanical engineering expertise with strong project cost estimation skills to support the Design Team during the enquiry and tendering phases. The primary goal is to enhance the accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness of cost estimates and technical offers while providing sufficient engineering depth to validate concepts, assumptions, and design feasibility. The position requires a solid understanding of mechanical and structural engineering principles, experience in design, manufacturing, and project management, and specific knowledge of port crane systems. Familiarity with 3D‑modeling techniques, drawing work, and optionally strength calculation and FEA is beneficial. • Apply knowledge of crane standards (e.g., EN 13001, FEM 1.001) and civil engineering codes (Eurocodes, AISCs, IBC) where applicable. • Hold a degree in Structural/Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years of design experience and 4–6 years of hands‑on cost estimation. • Demonstrate cross‑functional teamwork, strong analytical/problem‑solving abilities, and proficiency with Excel, ERP systems, MS365, and optionally SolidWorks and commercial FEA software.
